Harare, Apr 8: In a historic milestone for Zimbabwean cricket, the country is set to host the International Cricket Council (ICC) Board and Committee meetings for the very first time this week. The announcement was made by Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC), the sport’s governing body in the country, on Tuesday.
The high-profile meetings will take place in two phases initially in Harare on April 10 and 11, followed by a move to the iconic Victoria Falls from April 12 to 13.
Top cricket officials, including ICC chairman Jay Shah and other Board members, are expected to participate. The discussions will centre around key issues related to governance, strategy, and operations that are pivotal to shaping the sport’s global future.
ZC chairman Tavengwa Mukuhlani expressed immense pride over Zimbabwe’s selection as the host, calling it a momentous occasion for both the cricket body and the nation.
“This is a proud and historic moment for Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) and our country as a whole,” Mukuhlani said. “We are fully prepared to host the esteemed cricket leaders and to showcase the beauty, warmth, and hospitality of our nation.”
He added that the event signifies Zimbabwe’s growing role in global cricket and offers a valuable platform to contribute to the sport’s evolution.
ZC, in close coordination with the ICC, is ensuring that all arrangements are in place for the successful hosting of the meetings. The occasion is expected to draw attention to Zimbabwe not just for its cricketing aspirations but also for its potential as a major player on the international sporting stage.
