New Delhi, Apr 9: In a significant push to India's electronics manufacturing sector, the government’s Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for electronic components is expected to give a fresh impetus to exports while creating thousands of new jobs.
The initiative, which focuses on incentivizing domestic production of components such as semiconductors, printed circuit boards (PCBs), and passive components, aims to reduce import dependency and strengthen India's position in the global electronics value chain.

According to officials from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, the Component PLI scheme has already started yielding results, with several leading players expressing interest in expanding their manufacturing base in India.
“The response to the Component PLI scheme has been very encouraging. We anticipate an increase in exports and expect it to generate over 25,000 direct jobs and many more indirect opportunities,” said a senior ministry official.
With electronics demand surging globally, India’s move to localize critical components is expected to support major electronic assembly hubs within the country, including those in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, and Telangana. The scheme is also likely to attract global manufacturers seeking alternatives to China amid evolving geopolitical dynamics.
Industry bodies have welcomed the move, calling it a “game-changer” for the sector. “By supporting the manufacturing of key components domestically, India is on the path to becoming a true electronics manufacturing powerhouse,” said Rajeev Jain, an electronics industry expert.
So far, the government has allocated Rs 10,000 crore under the Component PLI segment, with disbursements linked to performance targets such as output value and employment generation.
As India moves toward its goal of achieving $300 billion worth of electronics production by 2026, schemes like the Component PLI are expected to play a pivotal role in reshaping the country's manufacturing and export landscape.
