Mumbai, Apr 9: Playback singer Javed Ali, known for his soulful voice in the song ‘Koyal’, recently shared his views on the evolving landscape of music and the role of reality shows in shaping artists' careers.
Javed Ali said that reality singing competitions are a “combination of popularity and artistry”, and that several successful singers have emerged from these platforms. “It’s not like we didn’t get any good singers from reality shows. There are many such examples,” he stated.

However, Ali acknowledged that long-term success depends on more than just initial fame. “Sometimes singers shine during the show, but when given their own song, it doesn’t always click. They disappear. But those with true talent and hunger to do something new, they eventually shine when the opportunity arises,” he explained.
He also spoke about the diversity of music audiences and how each artist has a distinct listener base. “Traditional and folk singers cater to different groups. Every artist has their own audience, and only a few manage to cut across all zones,” Ali noted.
Calling for innovation within Indian music, the ‘Koyal’ singer emphasized the need to blend classical roots with a modern touch. “Today’s generation looks for freshness. If we present Indian music with a new sound, like we did with Koyal, it brings a contemporary feel without losing originality,” he added.
Ali’s insights reflect the dynamic balance between tradition and modernity, highlighting how the industry continues to evolve with changing tastes while holding onto its cultural core.
