Karwar, April 9: Police in Dandeli, Uttara Kannada district, have uncovered a major counterfeit currency operation after seizing Rs 14 crore in fake Rs 500 notes from the residence of one Arshad Khan in Gandhinagar.
Acting on a tip-off from a local informant, the Dandeli police raided Khan’s home and confiscated the counterfeit notes. Upon closer inspection, investigators found that the notes were missing key security features, including the Reserve Bank of India watermark and the signature of the RBI Governor—both of which are standard on genuine currency.

Furthermore, the notes were marked with the phrase "movie shooting purpose," raising suspicions about their intended use.
The serial numbers on the notes appeared incomplete, and police are now probing the origin and purpose of these fake bills. The case has grown more mysterious with the revelation that Arshad Khan has not been seen at his residence for over a month, leading authorities to question why such a large quantity of counterfeit money was being kept.
Initial investigations suggest the possibility that the counterfeit notes were created for use in film productions, though no official confirmation has been made yet.
The Dandeli police are continuing their inquiry, and further details are expected as the investigation progresses.
A formal case has been registered at the Dandeli Town Police Station in connection with the incident.
