Abu Dhabi, Apr 10: In a proud moment for the United Arab Emirates, the country officially welcomed back its elite search and rescue team following a successful humanitarian mission in Myanmar, where a powerful earthquake had recently caused widespread devastation.
The team, led by Colonel Muzaffar Mohammed Al Ameri, Commander of the UAE Search and Rescue Team, was received by Brigadier Salem Abdullah bin Barrak Al Dhaheri, Director-General of the Abu Dhabi Civil Defence Authority. He commended the members for their courage, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to humanitarian values — a reflection of the UAE’s global leadership in emergency response.
The UAE contingent played a crucial role in rescue operations at six critical sites affected by the earthquake in Myanmar. Their mission, which was carried out in close coordination with local authorities and international relief teams, was conducted under the directives of President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, reiterating the UAE’s dedication to global solidarity and rapid crisis response.
At Yangon International Airport, Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein led an emotional farewell ceremony, praising the UAE for its swift action and effective support that helped save lives and provide urgent relief to survivors. He lauded the team's high level of professionalism and their outstanding contribution to international rescue efforts.
The rescue team represented several UAE entities, including the Abu Dhabi Civil Defence Authority, the General Command of Abu Dhabi Police, the National Guard, and the Joint Operations Command. Their coordinated efforts ensured the mission concluded successfully, marking another milestone in the UAE’s enduring humanitarian legacy.
The UAE continues to set a benchmark in global humanitarian missions, with its search and rescue team gaining international recognition for rapid deployment, expert coordination, and compassion that knows no borders.
