Ahmedabad, Apr 10: Gujarat Titans’ wicketkeeper-batter Jos Buttler admitted it was a “strange” experience to line up against his former franchise, Rajasthan Royals, during their commanding 58-run victory at the Narendra Modi Stadium. However, he was quick to add that his focus was firmly on securing the win for GT.
"It did feel a bit strange being on the other side against Rajasthan Royals,” said Buttler after the game. “But to be honest, I was even more desperate for the win today. I think it was an excellent team performance. I’m really enjoying the new challenge.”
Buttler, who contributed a vital 36 off 21 deliveries and forged a game-defining 80-run partnership with B Sai Sudharsan, said his transition to the No. 3 role has been smooth. “I’ve been batting at No. 3 for England recently, so it’s not unfamiliar. It helps that I’m coming in behind two fantastic openers who usually lay a strong platform,” he added.
Sudharsan, who dazzled with a brilliant 82, drew admiration from former Indian pacer Varun Aaron. “He has absolute role clarity and puts in a tremendous amount of hard work. The way he played today was exceptional. Those two sixes over cover off Sandeep Sharma showed he’s in terrific form,” said Aaron on JioHotstar.
Mark Boucher, former South African cricketer and ex-Mumbai Indians coach, lauded GT’s all-round depth. “What stands out is how different players are stepping up in different games. They’ll take a lot of confidence from Rashid Khan picking up two wickets—he’s clearly at his best,” said Boucher.
Aaron echoed Boucher’s sentiments, highlighting GT’s trust in young talents like Shahrukh Khan and consistency from seasoned performers like Rahul Tewatia. “Arshad’s knack for taking key wickets adds depth to the bowling. GT are showing what a complete team looks like—they’re not depending on just one or two stars,” he concluded.
With this emphatic victory, Gujarat Titans now sit comfortably at the top of the IPL 2025 points table, sending a strong message to the rest of the tournament.
