Cairo, Apr 10: Egypt has strongly condemned Israel’s decision to shut down six United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) schools in East Jerusalem, calling it a clear breach of international law.

In a strongly-worded statement issued on Wednesday, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the move as "blatant and unacceptable" and reaffirmed its unwavering support for UNRWA and the crucial services it continues to provide to Palestinian refugees, particularly in East Jerusalem.

"UNRWA plays an irreplaceable role in supporting Palestinian communities. Attempts to weaken or eliminate its mandate are unacceptable and must be opposed," the statement read.

Egypt also voiced firm opposition to what it described as a “systematic campaign” targeting the UN agency, reiterating that the rights of Palestinian refugees—including their right to return—must be safeguarded.

The ministry concluded by stressing Egypt's commitment to upholding the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people and supporting international efforts that protect the presence and operations of UNRWA in all its areas of responsibility.
