Yadgir, Apr 11: In yet another tragic road accident in Karnataka, four people, including three women from the same family, lost their lives after a head-on collision between a goods vehicle and a Road Transport Corporation bus near Muddaraki in Shahapur taluk of Yadgir district on Friday.
The deceased have been identified as Sharanappa (30), Sunitha (19), Somavva (50), and Tangamma (55), all residents of Varkanahalli village near Yadgir. Police said the victims were en route to the Bhagyavanthi Temple in Ghattaragi near Kalaburagi when the accident took place on the national highway.

Three of them died on the spot, while one succumbed to injuries at the hospital. Several other passengers traveling in the goods vehicle sustained injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Yadgir superintendent of police Pruthvik Shakar visited the accident site and took stock of the situation. Preliminary investigations indicate rash and negligent driving as the cause of the fatal crash. However, a detailed inquiry is underway to ascertain the exact sequence of events.
This is the third major road accident in Karnataka within a span of a week.
Five people were killed and 11 others injured on April 5 when a mini-bus rammed into a stationary truck near Nelogi Cross, close to Jevargi in Kalaburagi district. The victims were reportedly traveling to the Khwaja Bande Nawaz Dargah in Kalaburagi city. The injured were admitted to the Gulbarga Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS) for treatment.
In another tragic incident on April 3, four people were killed when their car collided with a Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) luxury bus, Airavat, on the Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway. The accident occurred near Tubinakere village in Mandya district, as the car attempted to re-enter the highway from the service road, unaware of the approaching bus.
The recent string of fatal accidents has raised concerns about road safety and reckless driving across the state. Authorities are urging motorists to exercise caution, especially on national highways and expressways where speeding and sudden lane changes are often cited as major causes of accidents.
