Mangaluru, Apr 12: In a shocking case of suspected animal cruelty, three stray dogs have died and one remains in a critical condition after allegedly consuming poisoned food near the helipad at Maryhill.

The incident reportedly took place on the evening of April 6, when unidentified individuals are believed to have laced food with poison and left it in the vicinity of the helipad. The poisoned food was consumed by four stray dogs that regularly roam the area.

According to local animal lovers, two dogs died on the spot after ingesting the food. The remaining two were immediately rushed to the Shaktinagar-based Animal Care Trust for emergency treatment. However, one of them succumbed despite efforts to save it. The condition of the fourth dog is said to be critical and is being closely monitored.

The disturbing incident has prompted animal rights activists and concerned residents to demand strict action against those responsible. They have urged the authorities to identify and apprehend the culprits at the earliest to prevent such acts of cruelty in the future.

A case has been registered at Kavoor police station, and further investigation is underway.

Animal welfare organisations and locals have called for increased surveillance and stricter enforcement of animal protection laws to ensure the safety of stray animals in the city.
