Mumbai, Apr 12: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced on Friday the upcoming launch of the ‘Mumbai One’ card, which will allow passengers to use a single smartcard for multiple modes of public transport across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). The card will provide access to the Metro, Mono Rail, local trains, and public buses.

Fadnavis stated that the infrastructure for the card will be completed within a month. “The card will allow passengers to book a single ticket for multiple transport modes, eliminating the need to wait at different ticket counters,” he said.

The Mumbai One card, similar to London’s Oyster card, aims to make travel more convenient and save time by reducing queues. Additionally, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced the introduction of 238 new Air-Conditioned trains, designed for better ventilation, comfort, and safety, with manufacturing set to begin soon.

These announcements were made during a joint press briefing, where the ministers also revealed Rs 17,000 cr worth of infrastructure projects, spanning over 300 km, to ease congestion and improve the suburban transport system.
