Hyderabad, Apr 13: AIMIM chief and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi has called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to reconsider the controversial Waqf (Amendment) Act, branding it as a “black law” that violates constitutional rights and discriminates against the Muslim community.
Addressing the media on Sunday, Owaisi criticized the BJP-led government for pushing through the amendment with support from its NDA allies.
“This law is unconstitutional. It imposes an ideology that contradicts Indian nationalism and the spirit of the Constitution,” he said.

He questioned the double standards in religious endowment laws, arguing that the same protections granted to Hindu, Sikh, and Jain religious bodies are being denied to Muslim institutions.
“In the endowment boards of other religions, only their followers can be members. Their boards enjoy exemptions under the Limitation Act. They can receive property donations from anyone. But these rights have now been stripped away from the Muslim Waqf board,” Owaisi explained.
The AIMIM leader said the Waqf Amendment Act infringes upon fundamental rights enshrined in Articles 14, 15, 25, 26, and 29 of the Indian Constitution.
He also dismissed the claim that the amendment aims to protect Waqf properties.
“This Act is not about safeguarding assets, stopping encroachments, or increasing revenue. It’s about control and exclusion,” he said.
On the recent violence during anti-Waqf Act protests in Murshidabad, West Bengal, Owaisi firmly condemned the unrest.
“We do not support violence. Protests must remain peaceful, always,” he said.
Owaisi also announced that the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) will hold a public meeting on April 19 at AIMIM headquarters Darussalam in Hyderabad. The meeting aims to raise awareness about the implications of the Waqf Amendment Act and rally support for its rollback.
Muslim leaders and organisations from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, including Jamaat-e-Islami and Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind, will participate in the gathering. AIMPLB President Moulana Khalid Saifullah Rahmani will preside over the event.
Owaisi said MPs who served on the parliamentary Waqf committee have also been invited.
“If their schedules allow, they will join us to present their views,” he added.
The AIMIM leader reaffirmed his commitment to constitutional rights and vowed to continue challenging laws that marginalize any community.
