Hisar, Apr 14: On the occasion of Ambedkar Jayanti, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday inaugurated commercial air services from Maharaja Agrasen Airport in Hisar, Haryana, and laid the foundation stone for a new terminal, marking a major milestone in the state’s aviation and infrastructure growth.
Accompanied by Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu, the Prime Minister flagged off the first 70-seater Alliance Air flight from Hisar to Ayodhya. The event also saw the laying of the foundation stone for Terminal-2, a Rs 410 cr project that will feature a modern passenger terminal, cargo facility, and ATC building.
“This airport is a historic gift for Hisar and its surrounding districts,” said CM Saini, adding that the new air services will boost trade, tourism, and investment in the region.
The Prime Minister’s visit comes as part of a broader initiative, with development projects worth Rs 10,000 crore being inaugurated or launched across Haryana. “April 14 will be a historic day in Haryana’s development journey,” PM Modi posted on X, referring to the launch of flights and infrastructure projects on Dr B R Ambedkar’s 135th birth anniversary.
The Hisar airport will now operate scheduled flights to Ayodhya (twice a week), and Jammu, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, and Chandigarh (thrice weekly), strengthening Haryana’s air connectivity.
Later in the day, PM Modi traveled to Yamunanagar to launch more development works. These included the foundation stone for an 800 MW thermal power unit at the Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram Thermal Power Plant, worth Rs 8,470 cr, expected to boost the state’s power supply and energy security.
Furthering the Centre’s GOBARDhan initiative, the Prime Minister also laid the foundation for a Compressed Biogas Plant in Mukarabpur, Yamunanagar, with a capacity of 2,600 metric tonnes per year, aimed at promoting clean energy and waste management.
Additionally, he inaugurated the Rs 1,070 cr Rewari Bypass project under the Bharatmala Pariyojana. The 14.4 km bypass will ease congestion in Rewari City and reduce Delhi-Narnaul travel time by nearly an hour, boosting regional economic and social development.
