Mangaluru: Free medical camp in Neermarga held as part of Lenten season initiative

Mangaluru, Apr 14: A joint effort by the health commission, commission for women of St Joseph the Worker Church, Neermarga, Forum of Christian United Services (FOCUS), and Fr Muller Medical College Hospital, Mangaluru, organized a free medical camp on April 13 at St Ligoury Primary School, Neermarga.

The event commenced with a prayer song by the Women Sangatan members, seeking divine blessings. Dignitaries present on the dais included parish pries Fr Paul Pinto, vice president of the Neermarga parish pastoral council Sandeep Misquith, secretary Usha Fernandes, FOCUS president John Baptist D’Souza, MD physician at Father Muller Medical College Hospital Dr Veena Pinto, health camp coordinator Deepika, oncology department representative Dr Kumar S Vasist, and health commission secretary of Neermarga Church Saritha Crasta.

Fr Paul Pinto emphasized the importance of preventive healthcare, appreciating the collaborative effort behind the camp. John Baptist D’Souza highlighted FOCUS’s community contributions, while Deepika explained Fr Muller Hospital’s role in organizing such initiatives. Dr Vashist raised awareness about cancer symptoms and treatment options.

The camp offered free services, including eye tests, ECG, OBG and orthopedic consultations, blood tests, and general medicine, along with free medications. A total of 170 individuals benefited from the camp.

Francis Gonsalves, member of Health Commission welcomed the attendees, and Prakash Pereira, vice president of FOCUS expressed gratitude with a rose gesture. Merlin Pais compered the event, which also included breakfast and refreshments.

This community-driven initiative showcased the power of collaboration in promoting healthcare awareness and accessibility.
