Los Angeles, Apr 22: Legendary rock icon Bruce Springsteen recently opened up about his experience visiting the set of his upcoming biopic Deliver Me from Nowhere, which captures a transformative period in his musical journey. Speaking on Variety’s Awards Circuit Podcast, the 75-year-old singer-songwriter described the visit as both “interesting” and nostalgic.
Springsteen shared that much of the filming took place while he was on tour, but he managed to spend time on set and was moved by how meticulously the team recreated his childhood environment. “It was interesting to see it played out, to see your grandmother’s house again, and to go inside and get a general feeling of what it was like when you were very young. So I enjoyed all those parts of it,” he said.
The biopic, which stars The Bear actor Jeremy Allen White as Springsteen, focuses on the creation of Springsteen’s introspective 1982 album Nebraska. The film is based on Warren Zanes’ book of the same name and is being helmed by director-writer Scott Cooper.
Springsteen said he agreed to the adaptation after being pitched the idea, stating, “It sounded like fun. It’s an interesting concept, because it’s only a couple of years out of my life. It’s ’81, ’82, and around the creation of that particular record while I was simultaneously recording Born in the USA and also going through some personal difficulties that I’ve been living with my whole life. But it’s fantastic.”
The rocker has previously praised Jeremy Allen White’s portrayal of him, calling him a “terrific actor” during an interview on SiriusXM’s E Street Radio. “He sings well. He sings very well. And Jeremy Strong and Odessa Young, you know, it’s a tremendous cast of people,” he said.
Though watching someone else portray him felt “a little bit” strange at first, Springsteen admitted, “You get over that pretty quick. Jeremy is such a terrific actor that you just fall right into it… He’s got an interpretation of me that I think the fans will deeply understand.”
Springsteen concluded by expressing his enthusiasm about the project: “I’ve had a lot of fun. I’ve had a lot of fun being on the set when I can get there.”
