Srinagar, Apr 26: In the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack, Jammu and Kashmir Police, the army, and other security forces have intensified operations across the Anantnag district, detaining around 175 suspects for questioning.
“Many raids were conducted at various locations throughout the Anantnag district. Day and night search operations are underway with heightened vigilance. So far, around 175 suspects have been detained for questioning to dismantle the support networks aiding terrorist activities,” an official said.
To bolster security further, additional Mobile Vehicle Check Points (MVCPs) have been set up across the district to monitor suspicious movements and ensure public safety. Security forces have also launched Cordon and Search Operations (CASOs), ambushes, and intensified patrolling, especially in high-density forest areas, to flush out any possible terrorist presence and secure the region. Authorities have called for public cooperation, encouraging citizens to report any suspicious activity to the nearest police establishment.

The attack, which took place on Tuesday, left at least 26 tourists dead after heavily armed terrorists emerged from nearby forests and opened indiscriminate fire on civilians, most of whom were tourists. Baisaran, the site of the attack, is a small meadow located three to four kilometres from the Pahalgam market and is typically accessed by horse as there is no motorable road.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, cutting short his Saudi Arabia trip, returned to New Delhi on Wednesday morning and held a brief meeting at the airport with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri. PM Modi strongly condemned the terror attack, reaffirming India’s "unshakable" resolve to fight terrorism and assuring that the guilty will be brought to justice.
