Imphal, Apr 27: Security forces in Manipur arrested 12 militants from various banned outfits across three districts in the past 24 hours, officials reported on Sunday. The arrested individuals were affiliated with different factions of the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP), the People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK), and the United National Liberation Front (UNLF).
The militants were allegedly involved in extortion activities, including abduction and forcibly collecting money from contractors, government employees, traders, and civilians in Imphal East, Imphal West, and Kakching districts.
Eight of the arrested militants were taken into custody from Imphal East district, three from Imphal West, and one from Kakching district. Authorities also recovered a significant amount of arms and ammunition, wireless sets, cash, Aadhaar cards, incriminating documents, two two-wheelers, and 15 mobile phones from the militants' possession.

Among those arrested was a PREPAK militant, identified as Takhellambam Meipaksana Singh alias Korou alias Biken (29), who had been involved in multiple crimes, including the recent locking of a gas agency office in Imphal East. He was reportedly working under a lady self-styled PREPAK commander, Sana, who had been arrested earlier by the Manipur Police and is now in custody.
As part of ongoing search and area domination operations, security forces also recovered sophisticated arms and ammunition from Pherzawl and Kakching districts.
Manipur Police issued an appeal urging the public not to believe in rumours or circulate fake videos. The authorities cautioned that the uploading of unfounded content on social media would lead to legal action. They also reminded the public to verify any circulated posts with the central control room’s rumour-free number.
In the wake of ongoing ethnic violence in the state, the police have reported the theft of vehicles, with 108 stolen cars and 16 two-wheelers being recovered since April 16. As part of a special drive launched on the same date, police have been working diligently to recover stolen vehicles from anti-social elements and attackers.
Authorities continue to urge the public to return any looted arms, ammunition, and explosives to the police or nearby security forces.
