Women's tri-series: In-form India aim to extend ODI streak against South Africa

Colombo, Apr 29: Riding high on confidence after a resounding win in their tournament opener, the Indian women’s cricket team will look to extend their winning streak when they lock horns with South Africa in their second match of the ongoing women’s tri-series on Tuesday.

India launched their campaign on a commanding note, cruising to a nine-wicket victory over hosts Sri Lanka on Sunday, thereby stretching their ODI winning run to seven matches.

The Women in Blue put up a dominant display in all departments of the game. The spin trio of Sneh Rana, Deepti Sharma, and young Shree Charani choked the flow of runs and triggered a collapse, restricting Sri Lanka to a modest total. In response, the top-order batters — Pratika Rawal, Smriti Mandhana, and Harleen Deol — made light work of the chase with fluent knocks.

The Indian fielding unit, too, was electric on the field, complementing the bowling effort and showcasing their growing all-round strength.

Heading into the clash against South Africa, Harmanpreet Kaur’s side will take confidence from their recent record against the Proteas. India last suffered a defeat to South Africa in this format back in March 2022 and swept their last bilateral ODI series 3-0.

As the tri-series heats up, all eyes will be on whether India can continue their clinical march and cement their place in the final with another assertive performance.
