Canacona, Apr 30: Speaker and Canacona MLA Ramesh Tawadkar announced significant infrastructure developments in the region, stating that 90% of roads have been hotmixed and Rs 250 crore worth of electricity works have been completed.
Tawadkar made these remarks during the inauguration of a new 200 KVA Electricity Transformer near Ruby Residency in Chaudi-Canacona on Tuesday.
"Underground electricity cabling will be completed in the coastal areas within the next two years at a cost of Rs 20 crore. Previously, this part of Chaudi experienced frequent power fluctuations due to an overloaded transformer. The installation of the new 200 KVA unit will now ensure a stable and reliable electricity supply," Tawadkar said, in the presence of CMC Chairperson Sara Shamba Naik Desai, ward councillor Ramakant Naik Gaunkar, and other dignitaries.

"The electricity department is prioritizing Canacona, and due to Chief Engineer Stephen Fernandes being a native of Canacona, electricity-related works are being completed swiftly. In Agonda alone, 6 transformers were replaced, and 5 transformers have been replaced in the Canacona municipal area. Now, work on the Karmal Ghat road will commence, enabling people to reach Margao in half an hour and Panaji in one hour. 90 percent of the roads in Canacona have been hotmixed," Tawadkar added.
He also mentioned that beautification efforts from Char-Rasta to Sheller would begin within two months.
Taking a swipe at his political opponents, Tawadkar asserted that the residents of Khotigao would not oppose him. "There were four pending issues in Khotigao village, and all four issues have been resolved or are nearing completion. There are some who oppose me simply for the sake of opposition, and people will express their disapproval strongly."
Canacona Ward Councillor Ramakant Naik Gaonkar expressed gratitude to the Telekar family for providing the land for the transformer installation.
The event was attended by Councillors Laxuman Pagi, Simon Rebello, Pandurang (Dheeraj) Naik Gaonkar, BJP Mandal President Prabhakar Gaonkar, secretary Diwakar Pagi, former BJP Mandal President Vishal Desai, AAP leader Sandesh Telekar, Poornakant Telekar, Canacona Electricity Department Assistant Engineer Govind Bhat, Junior Engineer Chari, and others.
