Mumbai, May 2: In a tragic incident on Thursday afternoon, a 53-year-old man lost his life after a speeding dumper truck rammed into his motorcycle on the Western Express Highway while he was on his way to Malad for work.
The deceased, identified as Ashok Dange, worked night shifts as a security guard in Jogeshwari East and also ran a small business during the day. Officials said Dange was a regular commuter and often picked up household supplies from the mall before heading home.
According to the Aarey Police, the incident occurred around 1:30 PM. Dange was thrown off his bike due to the impact of the collision. He sustained critical injuries and was rushed to the Jogeshwari Trauma Care Center, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
His son received a call from the police about the accident and rushed to the hospital along with family members. “We got a call from the police and immediately rushed to the hospital. But it was too late,” a family member told Daijiworld on condition of anonymity.
A case has been registered under Sections 106(1) and 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The driver of the truck, 29-year-old Sheshrao Chauhan, a resident of Naya Gaon, has been served a legal notice as the investigation continues.
Police officials said further action will depend on the findings of the ongoing inquiry and a review of CCTV footage from the area. Meanwhile, locals have renewed calls for stricter speed monitoring and safety measures on the high-speed corridor that sees hundreds of daily commuters.
