New Delhi, May 10: In a significant diplomatic breakthrough, India and Pakistan have agreed to a full and immediate ceasefire, following a call between their respective directors general of military operations. Foreign secretary Vikram Misri confirmed that the decision was made at 3:35 pm IST on Saturday, with both sides agreeing to stop all military actions on land, sea, and in the air, effective from 5:00 pm IST.

"Pakistan called the Indian director general of military operations earlier this afternoon. It was agreed that both sides would cease all military actions, including firing, from 1700 hours IST," Misri stated. He added that further discussions between the Directors General of Military Operations are scheduled for May 12 at 12:00 pm.

Earlier, US president Donald Trump took to Truth Social to announce the ceasefire, attributing it to successful mediation efforts by the United States. He praised both nations for demonstrating "common sense and intelligence" in resolving the conflict.

Tensions had sharply escalated following the deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22, which claimed 26 lives. In response, India launched 'Operation Sindoor,' conducting precision strikes on terror bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), including those linked to terrorist groups like Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba.
