Jerusalem, May 12: Israel has issued a stark warning to civilians and workers at three Red Sea ports in Yemen — Ras Isa, Hodeidah, and Al-Salif — urging immediate evacuation due to the threat of imminent attacks.
The alert was announced by Israeli military spokesperson Avichay Adraee on platform X (formerly Twitter), emphasizing the need to avoid the areas “until further notice” for personal safety.
The warning comes amid escalating hostilities between Israel and the Houthi rebels in Yemen. On Friday, the Houthis launched a missile targeting central Israel, which was intercepted by Israel’s Arrow defense system.
This latest exchange follows Israel’s intensified air campaign against Houthi positions, including a significant strike earlier this week that disabled Sanaa International Airport.
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz recently warned the Houthis of “severe retaliation” should their assaults continue, especially after the U.S. announced a pause in its strikes on Houthi-related sites.
The Houthis, who have controlled much of northern Yemen since 2014, began attacking Israel in late 2023, citing support for Palestinians in Gaza. The group has said it will stop if Israel halts its military operations and blockade of Gaza.
