Davanagere, May 12: Amid heightened tensions between India and Pakistan following the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, several soldiers from Karnataka who were on personal leave have cut short their vacations and returned to duty, responding to the Indian Army’s emergency call-up.

About six soldiers from Tolahunase, a village on the outskirts of Davanagere city, had returned home on annual leave for various reasons. However, with the prevailing tense situation along the border, they have now resumed their military duties ahead of schedule.

Tolahunase is renowned as a "village of soldiers," with more than 400 to 500 men having either served or currently serving in the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force. The tradition of service runs deep here, with nearly every household having at least one member in the armed forces.

Sunil Nayak, brother of Krishna Nayak, who is posted with the Madras Sappers, shared: “My brother had come on leave to our village on April 20 and was scheduled to remain until May 30. However, due to the increased tension at the border, he has cut short his leave and has already reported back to duty in Ambala.”

He added with pride, “Most of the soldiers from our village are deployed in Jammu and Kashmir. Over the years, more than 400 men from here have served the nation. In these uncertain times, it is a matter of great pride that our soldiers are standing strong for the country.”

Ravindra Kumar, son of Lakshman Nayak and Shakuntala Bai, was enjoying his annual leave when he too received the emergency call. He returned to duty in Kerala on May 2.

His mother said, “My son has been serving in the Army for nearly 15–20 years. He had come home on leave, but due to the volatile situation along the border, he was urgently called back. We are proud that our son is serving the country in such a critical hour.”

The prompt response of the soldiers from Tolahunase reflects not just discipline, but a deep-rooted commitment to national service — a legacy the village continues to uphold with unwavering honour.
