New Delhi, May 16: A 46-year-old man accused of orchestrating a widespread scam through a fake marketing company targeting defence personnel has been arrested by Delhi Police. The accused, identified as Om Prakash Sanwaria, was wanted in at least 10 cases across multiple states including Delhi, Rajasthan, Haryana, and West Bengal, officials said on Friday.
Sanwaria’s arrest followed a complaint by a defence personnel who was cheated of Rs 19 lac in a fraudulent car deal, according to deputy commissioner of police Surendra Choudhary.

The complainant had reached out to the accused via an e-commerce platform, foxbitdeals.com, where he was lured by an offer of an SUV at a 30% discount. To gain the victim's trust, Sanwaria shared post-dated cheque images over a social media platform before receiving the payment. The money was transferred to an account under the name Foxbitdeals Sales and Marketing Pvt Ltd, where his wife and sister were listed as company directors.
After receiving the money, the accused went incommunicado, switched off his phones, and disappeared, prompting the filing of a police case under charges of fraud, cheating, and criminal conspiracy.
“Through technical analysis and tracing of financial transactions, we tracked the accused’s movements despite him frequently changing locations,” said DCP Choudhary. A tip-off eventually led the police to Nangloi, where Sanwaria was apprehended near a temple.
During interrogation, Sanwaria confessed to founding the fake company with the sole aim of defrauding people, mainly targeting defence personnel. "He believed defence employees wouldn’t pursue legal action actively due to frequent transfers," the DCP revealed.
Police said the accused admitted to conducting similar scams in Jaipur, Delhi, and Kolkata. Further investigation is underway to identify additional victims and financial trails linked to the fraudulent operations.
