Mangaluru, May 19: The city police have registered two separate cases against individuals for allegedly posting provocative and derogatory content on social media platforms, with both cases transferred to the Mangaluru City CEN Crime police station for further investigation.

In the first case, a Facebook user named Shwetha Poojary reportedly posted a derogatory comment below a photograph of Dinesh Gundu Rao, the Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minister, on her account. The post was allegedly linked to the recent murder case of Suhas Shetty under the jurisdiction of Bajpe police station. Based on this, a case was registered at Suratkal police station under Crime No. 62/2025 under Section 353(2) of the Indian Penal Code. Shwetha Poojary has been traced, and she is currently being interrogated as the investigation continues.

In the second case, an Instagram user operating under the handle reshma_bariga reportedly made a cryptic and provocative post referring to the Indian Army’s ‘Operation Sindhoora’. The post contained ambiguous metaphors seen as an indirect criticism of the operation, along with the hashtag #dikkaraoperationsindura. Based on this, a case was registered under Crime No. 59/2025 under Sections 192, 196, 353(1)(b), and 353(2) of the IPC. The user has been identified as Reshma from Belal post, Beltangady taluk in Dakshina Kannada district. She has been traced and is currently under interrogation.

This is nothing but height of stupidity and gross irresponsible misuse of freedom of speech. The language used to criticize the Minister talks about the background and upbringing of the accused. Prosecute her so that others may learn some manners.
