Theories into life and life into theories
The teaching mode is designed to inculcate ‘sensitivity’ into students, as opposed to producing just a bunch of academicians, providing them with an opportunity for deeper understanding of several issues. Thus nurturing profound and compassionate professionals.
The Students are required to produce a research paper in the final year as part of their course requirements. Throughout the research period the designated faculty research supervisors are well qualified and equipped to guide students effectively towards their desired research goals. The faculty offers adequate support and guidance for students.
The department has partnered with the Edward and Cynthia Institute of Public Health (ECIPH, Mangaluru) for industry-based learning and with Charles Stuart University, Australia for a specialization further, which supports the department in providing practical learning sessions and advanced knowledge in specialized subjects. The department has faculty members with expertise in academic and research domains of epidemiology, qualitative research, global health, occupational health, public health nutrition, demography, information technology, behavioural science, and maternal health.
The Department of Public Health equips students with all kinds of research knowledge and skills, so their research can lead to recommendations for policy changes. It capacitates students to write research papers, policy briefs, working papers and case studies to disseminate their research findings. The Department of Public Health also organizes symposiums, conferences, and other academic events; that motivates and builds confidence among students for more public speaking and writing. This extends itself to providing assistance to students who aim to publish their papers in journals.
Through collaborations with National Service Scheme (NSS) where the students are actively engaged in community service, we promote community health and wellness locally. The strong connections with Public Health are established through various activities at the community level, like exposure in immunization campaigns, cleanliness drives, awareness camps, blood donation camps, etc. The students are exposed to field realities through involvement in health camps through outreach activities.
The student receive assistance in reaching out to the institutions for internships and jobs. The job placement opportunities for public health students are immensely diversified and rewarding, ranging from United Nations agencies, non-governmental organizations, research centres, academic institutions, governmental organizations, and private firms like Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). We assist our students in this way by organizing industry-level workshops, writing resumes, networking opportunities, and facing interview panels.
