Mormugao, Jun 1: A murder case has been registered against Rahul Kumar Saini, a resident of Baina and native of Bihar, following the death of Rajesh Majhe, who succumbed to injuries sustained in an assault.
The incident occurred on May 25 inside a rented room at Baina when Saini allegedly attacked Majhe with a wooden stick during a fight. Majhe suffered severe head injuries and was admitted to Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC), Bambolim for treatment.
Initially, Saini was arrested under Section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and remanded to four days of police custody. However, after the victim passed away during treatment, the police upgraded the charges and registered a murder case under Section 103 of the BNS at Mormugao Police Station.
Saini was produced before the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) on Saturday and remanded to another four days of police custody.
Mormugao Police Inspector Sherif Jacques is leading the investigation, supervised by Mormugao DySP Gurudas Kadam. Further inquiries are underway.
