30 dead in Israeli strike near aid site in Rafah

Rafah, Jun 1: At least 30 people were killed and over 115 injured in an Israeli airstrike near an aid distribution center run by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) in Rafah, according to a Reuters report citing Palestinian news agency WAFA and Hamas-linked media.

The Israeli government has not yet commented on the reported attack.

The GHF, which began operations in Gaza recently, is supported by international donors and Israel. However, its neutrality has been questioned by some Palestinians, citing concerns over biometric checks allegedly used to filter aid recipients. Israeli officials have defended the checks as necessary to ensure that Hamas affiliates do not receive assistance.

The May 28 incident at another GHF site had also stirred controversy. Hamas accused Israel of killing three and injuring 46 people there — a claim denied by GHF. At the time, the Israeli military said it had only fired warning shots to disperse large crowds and regain control of the area.

The latest strike comes amid heightened tensions in Rafah, with humanitarian efforts facing severe disruption.
