Panaji, Jun 4: A late-night fire engulfed a mobile recharge and electrical shop in Taleigao, reducing the establishment to ashes and causing a loss estimated between Rs 12 to Rs 15 lakh. The swift response of the fire and emergency services prevented a major disaster in the area.
According to officials, the fire broke out around 10:45 pm on Monday, and a distress call was received at 11 pm. Firefighters battled the blaze for over an hour, finally extinguishing it shortly after midnight.

“All the electrical and electronic items in the shop, including computers, photocopy machines, and CCTV cameras, were destroyed,” fire officials confirmed.
The shop was located adjacent to a restaurant, and the situation could have worsened had the flames spread further. Firefighters promptly evacuated LPG cylinders from the restaurant, averting a potential explosion.
Authorities are investigating the exact cause of the fire, with preliminary estimates pointing toward an electrical short circuit. Thankfully, no casualties or injuries were reported.
