Mangaluru, Jun 6: The orientation programme for the newly admitted first year PU students for the academic year 2025-26 was held at St Aloysius PU College. The event marked the formal welcome of the new batch of students into the academic year and aimed to ignite in them a spirit of learning and growth.
The programme commenced with a meaningful prayer serviceby the II PU students, invoking God’s blessings for the journey ahead. This was followed by the traditional lighting of the lamp, symbolizing the dispelling of ignorance and the ushering in of knowledge. A vibrant welcome dance performed by the college students added colour and cultural richness to the occasion.

























The vice principal of science, Muralikrishna G M and the vice principal of commerce and arts, Vilma Fernandes welcomed and introduced the resource person and extended a warm greeting to the new entrants.
The event was further graced by the presence of the rector, who delivered the presidential remarks, encouraging students to embrace their new academic phase with determination and to strive to be good human beings and emphasized that their learning needs to be guided by values such as kindness, respect, and integrity. Fr Melwin stressed that education is not just about gaining knowledge but about transformation into a wonderful individual who illuminates the lives of others. He urged the students to allow the values they learn in the college to shape them in becoming men and women for and with others.
An impactful session for students of the science stream was delivered by the resource person, Brain Fernandes, director, Spearhead Media Pvt Ltd and chairman, Mangaluru and Udupi chapter, who connected the journey of life with the world of science. Referring to life as a 'laboratory', he emphasized that just like theories in science, success in life requires observation, experimentation, and learning through experience. He introduced the four essential Cs for succeeding in science and in life: critical thinking, collaboration, creative thinking, and communication. He explained how these skills not only help in scientific discovery but also in personal growth and problem-solving in daily life.
Encouraging students to embrace challenges with courage, he stressed the importance of living science, not just studying it, and remaining focused despite setbacks. He inspired students to accept failure as part of the learning process and to see mistakes not as barriers but as stepping stones to success.
A motivating session was conducted for the students of commerce and arts stream by the resource person Dr Preethi Keerthi D’Souza, associate professor, department of commerce, Mangalore University. She began her session with an engaging activity and meaningful stories captivating the attention of the students. Through real-life examples, she conveyed the importance of self-expression and the need to constantly upgrade one’s skills and mindset.
Highlighting the value of human connection, she encouraged students to build a positive rapport with peers and mentors, stating that good relationships are essential for a joyful and purposeful life. She motivated students to create their own unique story during their two years in Pre-University college, making every moment count.
Quoting Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, she reminded the students that 'aiming low is a crime', and inspired them to dream big, stay determined, and never settle for mediocrity. Her words left a lasting impact, urging each student to approach this new chapter with courage, creativity, and commitment.
She mentioned the importance of having faith in God, especially during times of uncertainty, the value of respecting all religions, promoting peace, and recognizing the divine presence in every path of faith. The session concluded with a thought-provoking quote: "Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself."
Present on the occasion was the campus minister Fr Anthony Derrick. The dean of science, Kiran Shetty and the dean of commerce and arts, Inas Dais delivered the vote of thanks. The programme was coordinated by Chaithra U, Diana Dias, Blanet Paul and Karthika. The programme was compered by Liliann Benjamin, department of English and Deyan Crasta, department of mathematics.
