Alicia Silverstone hints at return in ‘Clueless’ reboot, says super bowl Ad sparked interest

Los Angeles, Jun 9: Alicia Silverstone, best known for her iconic role as Cher Horowitz in the 1995 cult classic Clueless, has revealed that she never expected to return to the role until a recent Super Bowl ad changed her mind.

Speaking to People magazine, the 48-year-old actress said, “I didn't [think I would revisit the character]. And then I did it for the Super Bowl, yeah, and it was so much fun.” Silverstone appeared as Cher in a 2023 Rakuten commercial, which reignited her interest in the beloved character.

While confirming her return for a new Clueless TV reboot, the actress said she couldn’t reveal anything further about the storyline. “I can say nothing,” she remarked when asked for details, reports femalefirst.co.uk.

Silverstone also shared a heartwarming memory of her son Bear, now 14, watching Clueless for the first time at age five. “He didn’t know what was going on. The only thing he took away was the kiss at the end. He started kissing me more. It was so sweet,” she said.

The reboot is being helmed by Gossip Girl creators Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, along with Jordan Weiss. It follows a previous TV adaptation in the late 1990s, where Rachel Blanchard played Cher for three seasons.

Clueless, written and directed by Amy Heckerling, was a modern-day take on Jane Austen’s novel Emma, set in a Beverly Hills high school. Known for its witty dialogue and '90s fashion, the film became a pop culture phenomenon and inspired a spin-off sitcom and a series of books.
