Calangute, Jun 11: Tension gripped the bustling beach town of Calangute after a heated scuffle at a local restaurant turned violent, all over a plate of biryani. Two inebriated customers reportedly assaulted staff members after refusing to pay their bill, sparking outrage among onlookers.

The incident unfolded late Monday night, when the duo, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, were confronted by restaurant staff for skipping payment. Instead of complying, the men began hurling abuses and physically attacked the employees. Eyewitnesses stated that the accused even bragged about their political clout and claimed ties with police and FDA officials, attempting to intimidate staff into silence.

According to the restaurant’s complaint, the same men had previously dined and left without paying, raising suspicions of premeditated mischief.

Calangute police have since arrested one of the suspects, while the other remains absconding. A case has been registered, and a manhunt is underway to trace the second accused. Locals have condemned the incident, urging strict action to ensure the safety of hospitality workers, especially in one of Goa’s prime tourist hotspots.
