Tragedy in Colva: 16-year-old Karnataka girl ends life at residence

Colva, Jun 17: In a tragic incident that has left the coastal town of Colva in shock, a 16-year-old girl allegedly ended her life by hanging at her residence on Monday. The deceased, originally from Karnataka, had been living in Colva with her family for some time.

According to police sources, information about the suspected suicide was received from an unidentified caller, stating that the teenager had used a scarf to end her life. PSI Nikhil Khajnekar of the Colva Police Station rushed to the scene and conducted a preliminary investigation.

Reports suggest that at the time of the incident, the girl was alone with her younger sister at home. While the sibling had reportedly dozed off, the elder sister is believed to have taken the extreme step during that time.

The body has been shifted to the South Goa District Hospital in Margao for post-mortem and medico-legal formalities. Police have registered a case of unnatural death and are conducting further inquiries to determine the circumstances and possible reasons behind the girl's death.

Authorities have urged the public to be vigilant and reach out to mental health professionals in times of distress, especially among teenagers. Further developments are awaited as investigations continue.
