Harare, Jun 19: Zimbabwe Cricket has announced a 16-member squad for the much-anticipated two-match Test series against newly crowned World Test Champions South Africa, set to begin June 28 at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo.
Led by veteran skipper Craig Ervine, the home side will be eager to make a statement on familiar turf after their encouraging one-off Test outing in England earlier this month.
While Richard Ngarava and Ben Curran are sidelined due to injuries, Zimbabwe has made room for fresh faces and returning talent. Fast bowler Kundai Matigimu earns his first Test call-up, while top-order batters Prince Masvaure and Takudzwanashe Kaitano make comebacks. Trevor Gwandu also returns to the fold, having recovered from a groin injury.
Key players include pace spearhead Blessing Muzarabani, fresh off reaching 50 Test wickets and a stint with IPL champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and middle-order veteran Sean Williams, expected to anchor the innings. Brian Bennett, Zimbabwe’s breakout performer at Trent Bridge with the country's fastest Test century, adds explosive potential to the batting lineup.
With the Proteas riding high after their ICC World Test Championship final win, the upcoming series promises a gripping battle as Zimbabwe aims to challenge the champions and excite their home crowd.
