Mangaluru, Jun 21: “Yoga is one of India’s greatest gifts to mankind,” stated MP Capt Brijesh Chowta, while inaugurating the International Yoga Day celebrations held at Town Hall, Mangaluru, on Saturday, June 21. The event was jointly organized by the Dakshina Kannada district administration, zilla panchayat, AYUSH department, AYUSH colleges, and several yoga organizations.
Addressing the gathering, Capt Chowta remarked, “Yoga is not just a wellness activity but a holistic way of life that India has proudly offered to the world. Today, nations across the globe observe International Yoga Day, recognizing the spiritual and cultural contribution of India.”







Deputy commissioner Darshan HV, speaking on the occasion, highlighted that Yoga Day is celebrated in over 160 countries, proving that yoga transcends geographical boundaries. “Yoga must not be limited to symbolic participation; instead, it should be incorporated into our daily lifestyle. Every individual should practice yoga regularly to enhance their quality of life,” he urged.
The event was graced by several dignitaries including Mangaluru South MLA D Vedavyas Kamath, Mangaluru North MLA Dr Y Bharath Shetty, MLC Manjunath Bhandary, zilla panchayat CEO Dr Anand K, youth empowerment and sports officer Pradeep D’Souza, Lady Goshen Hospital superintendent Durga Prasad, and district information officer BA Khader Shah.
District AYUSH officer Dr Mohammad Iqbal welcomed the gathering, while retired AYUSH officer Dr Devadas served as the master of ceremonies.
Following the formal programme, a mass yoga demonstration was conducted within the Town Hall premises. The hour-long session was led by renowned Yoga Guru Dr Gopalakrishna Delampady, guiding participants through various yogic practices aimed at holistic well-being.
The event reinforced the global relevance of yoga and echoed India’s timeless wisdom in promoting physical, mental, and spiritual harmony.
