Lourdes Central School marks International Yoga Day with harmony & grace

Media Release

Mangaluru, Jun 24: On the serene morning of June 21, Lourdes Central School observed the 11th International Yoga Day with solemnity, splendor and a shared spirit of harmony across both the primary and secondary sections. Aligned with the global theme, “Yoga for one earth, one health”, the celebration was a compelling reminder of the intrinsic connection to the natural world and the vital role of inner balance in fostering global well-being.

In the primary section, the students of class 2 ushered in the morning’s event with heartfelt enthusiasm. The atmosphere was vibrant as little Lourdites gracefully performed a yoga dance, seamlessly blending movement and mindfulness. Trained under the gentle guidance of Anita Pinto and Thriveni Poojarthi, the performance was both a visual delight and a spiritual message conveyed through innocence and discipline.

The event was graced by Meghana Kashap as chief guest, whose insightful address simplified the profound values of yoga for young minds. Accompanying her were vice principal Anita Thomas and academic coordinator Shanthi Menezes. The warm welcome was extended by Anita Pinto, who also introduced the chief guest. The programme, thoughtfully anchored by the students under the mentorship of Lisa Peris, culminated with an articulate vote of thanks by students trained by Shanthi Menezes. The essence of the event was captured through engaging digital reels curated by Marula Gibson, leaving a lasting impression on all who witnessed it.

Meanwhile, in the secondary section, the rooftop auditorium transformed into a tranquil sanctum where the students of classes 8 A and B orchestrated a programme that was both meditative and magnificent. The proceedings commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp and a soulful prayer song. Karthik of class 8B delivered the welcome address and introduced the esteemed chief guest – Vidhyashreer. Tanishka Singh of class 8B highlighted the significance of the day with clarity and depth.

The centerpiece of the celebration was a dance drama performed by the students, interweaving storytelling, rhythm and yogic principles in a manner that both captivated and inspired. The programme not only demonstrated the students’ artistic talents but also embodied the deeper ethos of yoga – unity, strength and serenity.

In his address, Fr Johnson Sequeira, the principal emphasized that yoga is not merely a ritual reserved for a day but a way of life to be embraced every day. He applauded the diligence of the students and the commitment of the teachers in orchestrating such a meaningful celebration.

The resource person, with wisdom and grace, engaged the students in a practical session that included demonstrations of asanas, breathing techniques and the meditative disciplines of mauna, pranayama and dhyana. Her words served as a gentle yet firm reminder that true discipline begins with self-awareness and mindful withdrawal from distractions.

The programme was elegantly anchored by Krupa Somanna of class 8B, whose poise and fluency lent a finishing touch to a morning dedicated to wellness and inner strength.

The twin celebrations, vibrant in spirit and profound in message, echoed Lourdes Central School’s unwavering commitment to holistic education. The day was not just a tribute to an ancient tradition but a call to embrace a lifestyle of balance, clarity and compassion.
