Udupi, Jun 27: “When children from the Christian community aim for and secure positions in government services, it not only brings pride to the community but also adds to the honour of the district,” said the bishop of Udupi diocese, Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo.
He was speaking at a felicitation ceremony held at his residence on Friday to honour Shreyans Gomes, who secured the 372nd rank in the UPSC civil services examination. The bishop congratulated Shreyans for his remarkable achievement.

He mentioned that “The diocese had set a goal of seeing at least 25 youth from the community enter top level government positions. While this target has not been fully achieved, it is heartening to see some members making significant progress. I congratulate Shreyans for his quiet yet dedicated preparation and his success serves as an inspiration for others. Once Shreyans assumes his role as a civil servant, it will be a moment of pride for his parents, the community, and the entire district” he added.
Fr Denis D'Sa, public relations officer of the Udupi diocese, also spoke on the occasion. He said that many aspire to write prestigious exams like the UPSC, but clearing them requires intense hard work and consistent preparation. He expressed joy at Shreyans's success, achieved through such perseverance. In line with the vision of the bishop over the last 12 years, it is a matter of pride that several community members are now joining government service and achieving success.
