Panaji, Jun 28: Television and film actor-couple Kunal Verma and Puja Banerjee have been booked by Goa Police for allegedly abducting and extorting Bengali film producer Shyam Sunder Dey. The case stems from a Zero FIR registered in West Bengal and was transferred to Goa’s Calangute police station on Thursday.

The FIR, filed by Malabika Dey, alleges that between May 31 and June 4, her husband was restrained, abducted, and confined in a villa while on a trip to Goa. She claimed the accused threatened to implicate him in a fake narcotics case and extorted Rs 23 lac while shifting him between undisclosed locations.

The case has been registered under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, including kidnapping, extortion, wrongful restraint, criminal intimidation, and voluntarily causing hurt.

Goa Police confirmed receiving the FIR on June 12 and said investigations are underway. "There appears to be a financial dispute at the core of this case, but all details are being verified," an officer said.

Reacting on social media, Puja Banerjee wrote, “Going through the toughest time of our lives… I believe in God, and you know God is watching.”
