College student injured in acid attack at Pernem bus stop, investigation underway

Panaji, Jun 30: In a shocking incident that has sent shockwaves through Goa's Pernem region, a college student was targeted in an acid attack early Monday morning while waiting at a bus stop en route to his institute in Mapusa. The victim, identified as Rishab Shetye, a resident of Dhargalim-Pernem, was attacked around 8:30 am by unidentified assailants on a two-wheeler who hurled acid at him before fleeing the scene.

Eyewitnesses described a harrowing scene as the teenager, visibly in agony, ran along the road screaming for help. Locals rushed to assist him before emergency services arrived. Shetye was swiftly transported to Goa Medical College, where he is currently undergoing treatment for burn injuries.

Authorities have launched a full-scale investigation into the incident. A police team is actively working to identify the attackers and establish a motive, which remains unknown at this stage. Officers are also reviewing CCTV footage from nearby areas and appealing to the public for any information that could assist in tracking down the culprits.
