Udupi, July 1: In a significant development within the diocese of Udupi, Fr Joe Tauro, OCD, officially assumed charge as the episcopal vicar for religious on Tuesday, July 1. The solemn installation ceremony took place at the bishop’s Chapel, Udupi, in the presence of his excellency Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo, vicar general Msgr Ferdinand Gonsalves, chancellor Fr Stephen D’Souza, along with a few clergy and members of religious congregations.

Fr Joe Tauro, a devoted priest of the Order of Discalced Carmelites (OCD), brings with him a wealth of experience in spiritual leadership, pastoral ministry, and religious life. Throughout his years of dedicated service, he has held various responsibilities within the Carmelite order, earning the admiration and respect of the faithful and religious communities alike.

As the episcopal vicar for religious, Fr Tauro will serve as a vital link between the bishop and the different religious congregations across the diocese. His role will focus on fostering communication, offering support, and encouraging collaboration in the shared mission of the church.

In another key appointment, Fr Wilson D’Souza has been named as an additional notary in the ecclesiastical tribunal of Udupi. This appointment, made by bishop Gerald Lobo, comes in recognition of Fr Wilson’s pastoral commitment, administrative skills, and integrity.
