Anshula Kapoor opens up on childhood struggles after Boney-Sridevi marriage

Mumbai, Jul 1: Anshula Kapoor, daughter of late Mona Shourie Kapoor and producer Boney Kapoor, recently opened up about her emotionally turbulent childhood following her father's high-profile marriage to actress Sridevi in the 1990s.

In a candid chat with host Nayandeep Rakshit, Anshula reflected on the challenges she faced growing up after her parents' divorce. “I was in the first standard, and what started happening was there were families who didn’t want to associate with what was happening in our lives,” she said. “They didn’t want their children to come into our house and be part of any friction.”

She recalled how divorces were rare in Indian households back then, and the public nature of her father's second marriage made matters worse. “Because of the partner that dad chose—unfortunately or fortunately—it became a lot more public, because they were both public figures,” she explained. “Had they not been that public, it would’ve been easier for us to deal with.”

Boney Kapoor, who was already a father to Arjun and Anshula, married Sridevi in 1996 after parting ways with Mona. The couple had two daughters, Janhvi and Khushi Kapoor. The Kapoor siblings were kept apart during their growing years, but Sridevi’s untimely demise in 2018 brought Arjun and Anshula closer to their half-sisters, forming a bond that remains strong today.

Anshula also touched upon the emotional confusion of growing up without her father at home. “It was a very emotional and a very confusing time to be in school,” she said.

Today, Anshula has carved her own path as an entrepreneur and mental health advocate, promoting body positivity and emotional wellness. Meanwhile, Arjun, Janhvi, and Khushi continue to make their mark in the Bollywood industry.
