Mangaluru, Jul 1: The City Civil Court in Bengaluru has issued an ex-parte temporary injunction restraining BTV, a Kannada news channel, from broadcasting any defamatory content against Karnataka Bank Ltd.
According to a statement issued by the bank on Tuesday, BTV had aired baseless and defamatory news items on June 29 and 30, 2025, allegedly intending to create confusion among stakeholders, including shareholders and depositors. In response, Karnataka Bank filed a civil suit (O.S. No. 4614/2025) on June 30 before the City Civil Court, seeking legal action to prevent further damage to its reputation.
On July 1, the 29th City Civil and Sessions Judge passed an interim order stating:
“Issue an ex-parte order of temporary injunction restraining the defendant from telecasting the defamatory news/message against the plaintiff bank, till next date.”
The bank clarified that it has obtained a certified copy of the order and emphasised that the allegations made by the channel were baseless and defamatory. To safeguard the confidence of its stakeholders and maintain its longstanding reputation, Karnataka Bank has sought permanent injunction and damages through the legal route.
Reiterating its strong financial standing and reliability, Karnataka Bank urged its depositors, account holders, and shareholders not to be concerned by the defamatory broadcasts. The bank stated that the legal action was necessary to prevent panic and preserve the dignity of the 100-year-old institution.
