Kasargod, Jul 9: A bandh-like atmosphere prevailed across Kasargod district on Wednesday as the nationwide strike called by various labour unions entered its second day. Both KSRTC and private bus services were completely suspended, and vehicular movement in the city came to a halt.
Shops and commercial establishments in the city remained fully closed. Though a few auto-rickshaws and private vehicles were seen on the roads early in the morning, protestors stopped their movement, resulting in a total suspension of transport services. Various labour organisations took out protest rallies in the city, while the police remained on high alert to prevent any untoward incidents.

Schools and colleges remained open, but attendance was significantly low. Most employees did not report to work at government offices. On Tuesday as well, private bus operators had observed a strike. With the labour unions continuing their protest on Wednesday, public life in the district was hit for the second consecutive day.
The strike impact was felt not only in Kasargod city but also in key towns like Kumble, Uppala, Manjeshwar, Badiyadka, Kanhangad, and other major areas. In rural areas, a few shops remained open and some private vehicles were seen operating.
