London, Jul 23: Iga Swiatek etched her name into Wimbledon history with a stunning display of dominance, claiming her first Wimbledon Ladies Singles title and sixth career Grand Slam in sensational style. The Polish star defeated Amanda Anisimova 6-0, 6-0 in just 57 minutes on Saturday, becoming the first player since Steffi Graf in 1988 to win a Grand Slam final without conceding a single game.
With this victory, the 23-year-old Swiatek has now won majors on all three surfaces — clay, hard court, and grass — completing a rare Grand Slam surface sweep. Previously, she had claimed four French Open titles and one US Open crown.
Swiatek’s win at the All England Club also made her the first Polish singles champion at Wimbledon in the Open Era and marked her 100th career Grand Slam match win, bringing her Grand Slam record to an impressive 100-20 since her 2019 debut.
The final was one-way traffic from the outset. Swiatek stormed through the opening set 6-0, the first such scoreline in a Wimbledon women’s final since Martina Navratilova’s 1983 win. She never let up, finishing with a second 6-0 set — only the second “double bagel” final in Grand Slam history, matching Graf’s rout of Natalia Zvereva at the 1988 French Open.
Anisimova, who had stunned World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in the semifinals, managed some heavy hitting in the second set, including a 90-mph forehand that momentarily tested Swiatek. But the American couldn’t convert her flashes of form into games, falling to Swiatek’s relentless pressure.
Despite the loss, Anisimova’s breakthrough Wimbledon run marked a turning point in her career. The 23-year-old is set to enter the WTA Top 10 for the first time, and her upset over Sabalenka stands as her biggest win yet.
Swiatek, meanwhile, continues to assert her dominance at the top of the women’s game, now holding an unblemished 6–0 record in Grand Slam finals and joining an elite club of players who have delivered perfection on tennis’s biggest stages.
