Mumbai, Jul 15: Bollywood actress Manisha Koirala has been conferred an Honorary Doctorate by the University of Bradford, marking a significant milestone in her journey as an artist and survivor.
The actress, best known for her roles in films like Dil Se, Lajja, and 1942: A Love Story, shared a heartfelt video from the graduation ceremony on Instagram, accompanied by an emotional note.
“I stand here not as someone who came through the traditional path of education, but as someone who learned through life — through hard work, failure, resilience, and service,” Koirala wrote, adding, “This honor means more than I can put into words. It’s proof that no matter where you start, your journey matters.”
She expressed her gratitude to the university, saying, “Thank you to the University of Bradford for seeing value in my story. Keep growing. Keep shining…”
Tribute to Her First Teacher
In a separate emotional post on Sunday, Koirala paid tribute to her late grandmother Sushila Koirala, describing her as her “first teacher” and the foundation of her values.
“Offering the deepest tribute to mother Susila, who raised me, taught me the values of life and founded the foundation of who I am today,” she wrote.
The actress fondly recalled childhood memories of learning Bharatanatyam, Manipuri dance, and reading under her grandmother’s guidance. “That time filled with His love will always live in my heart,” she added.
The post included two photos of her grandmother, who was a renowned Nepalese classical dancer and theatre director, and passed away in Kathmandu on July 13, 2007.
On the Work Front
Manisha Koirala was recently lauded for her commanding performance as Mallikajaan in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Netflix series Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar, marking a celebrated return to the spotlight.
Having battled cancer and emerged as an advocate for health and resilience, Koirala’s recognition by the University of Bradford further cements her legacy — both on and off screen.
