India storms into quarterfinals of Asia Junior Mixed Team Championships with 110–83 win over UAE

Solo (Indonesia), Jul 19: Team India cruised into the quarterfinals of the Badminton Asia Junior Mixed Team Championships with a commanding 110–83 win over the United Arab Emirates in their Group D encounter on Saturday.

This marks India’s second consecutive victory in the tournament, following their strong opening-day performance against Sri Lanka. With Hong Kong China also bagging two wins in as many outings, both teams have now confirmed their spots in the knockout rounds. The two sides will clash on Sunday to decide the Group D topper.

The tournament follows a relay scoring format, where the first team to reach 110 points across 10 matches secures the win.

India set the tone early with Rujula Ramu defeating UAE’s Mysha Khan 11–5 in the opening girls’ singles match. The mixed doubles duo of C Lalramsanga and Taarini Suri then extended the lead to 22–11 with a sharp performance.

Despite some resilience from the UAE, India maintained control. At the halfway mark, they led 55–41, a margin they continued to build upon.

US Open finalist Tanvi Sharma delivered a flawless show, stretching India’s lead to 66–46 over Madhumita Sundarapandian. Lalramsanga returned to the court alongside Reshika U in the second mixed doubles rubber, outclassing Adithya Kiran and Mysha Khan 11–5, pushing the lead to 77–51, leaving little room for a UAE comeback.

With Sunday’s clash against Hong Kong China now a group-decider, India will aim to carry their winning momentum into the next round.

The championship, which employs the unique relay team format, is seen as a crucial preparatory platform ahead of the BWF Junior World Championships, slated to be held later this year at the National Centre of Excellence in Guwahati.
