Udupi, July 20: A theft was reported late on July 19 extending into the early hours of July 20 at the Revenue Department’s government quarters near the Udupi Town Police Station.

CCTV footage from the premises suggests that a group of 3 to 4 miscreants was involved. The culprits reportedly broke into at least three houses and fled with valuables worth several thousand rupees.

This is the second such incident at the same quarters. Nearly a year ago, burglars had targeted the area and made away with gold ornaments worth several lakhs. At the time, there was no CCTV surveillance. Following that incident, residents took the initiative to install cameras. However, the culprits from the previous case are yet to be identified.

With a second burglary taking place within a year, residents are growing increasingly anxious about safety and security.

A case has been registered at Udupi Town police station, and an investigation is currently underway.
