Reliance MediaWorks in Expansion Mode With South India Focus


Mumbai, Feb 1 (IANS): Reliance MediaWorks, the entertainment arm of the Anil Ambani-led industrial house, is expanding its domestic operations across films, TV commercials and broadcasting through strategic alliances and leveraging existing tie-ups.

The company is particularly looking at south India, where it has recently partnered with VenSat to expand its animation capabilities, as also to create a studio in Chennai, a statement issued Wednesday said.

It has also tied up with Annapurna Studios to manage and operate their studio facilities and expand the digital post-production facility at the Hyderabad studios, the statement added.

"In 2012, we plan to deepen our presence in Tamil and Telugu market through strategic alliances, further strengthen our offerings and leverage of existing relationships with capacity expansion and new strategic partnerships," chief executive Anil Arjun said.

Reliance MediaWorks provided post-production services, such as processing, digital cinema mastering, and promos, trailers and visual effects to 110 out of 114 Bollywood films that released in 2011, said the statement from the listed company.

It also handled digital imaging and visual effects for over 65 films in 2011, including some award-winning ones like "Rockstar", "Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara" and "Dirty Picture", while also offering 3D conversion services.

Reliance MediaWorks also operates a comprehensive digital restoration processing service facilities in India and restored over 250 legacy films in 2011, including titles such as "Sholay", "Laawaris", "Devdas" and "Do Bhigha Zameen".

The company operates BIG Cinemas, India's largest cinema chain with over 530 screens in India, the US States, Malaysia, Nepal and Netherlands. Its TV television venture, BIG Synergy, is among the top players in the television programming industry.
