Udupi: Two arrested for cattle theft in Hiriyadka police limits; vehicle & animals seized

Udupi, July 31: In a swift operation, police officials from Hiriyadka station arrested two individuals involved in cattle theft at Pareeka in Athrady village and seized a pickup vehicle along with the cattle.

Based on credible information received by PSI (investigation) Vittal Malavadkar of Hiriyadka police station, a team rushed to Shivagundi in Pareeka, Athrady village around 12 noon on July 30. There, they found cattle being inhumanely loaded into a pickup vehicle with the intention of transporting them to a slaughterhouse.

The arrested have been identified as Mehboob Saheb (65), a resident of Moodubettu village in Kaup taluk, and Padmanabha (57), of Kukke Subrahmanya in Sullia taluk, Dakshina Kannada district.

Police seized a pickup vehicle bearing registration number KA 07 5094, estimated to be worth Rs 6 lac. Additionally, one cow and one calf, valued at around Rs 6,000, were also seized.

A case has been registered at Hiriyadka police station.

The operation was conducted under the guidance of Udupi district superintendent of police Hariram Shankar and additional superintendent of police Sudhakar. The team was led by Udupi sub-division DySP Prabhu D T, circle inspector Gopikrishna, PSI (law and order) Puneeth Kumar B E, PSI (investigation) Vittal Malavadkar, and personnel from Hiriyadka police station.
