Use of Kannada mandatory on name boards in Udupi city limits

Udupi, Aug 3: The Udupi city municipality has made it mandatory for all name boards of offices, hotels, banks, companies, and shops within its jurisdiction to use at least 60% Kannada language. Additionally, the boards must include the name of the town, reflecting its heritage and cultural significance.

All business owners under the Udupi city municipality limits are required to install name boards in Kannada along with the name of the locality within 15 days. The Kannada portion of the board must be displayed at least 60% larger than that in any other language.

Furthermore, business owners who have not yet obtained or renewed their trade licenses are instructed to submit applications as per regulations within the next 7 days. Failure to comply will attract action under sub-rule (6) of Section 256 of the Karnataka Municipalities Act, according to a public notice issued by the city municipal commissioner.
