Chinchinim, Aug 4: Frequent power outages and the need for stricter tenant verification took centre stage at the gram sabha of the Chinchinim village panchayat held on Sunday under the chairmanship of Sarpanch Frank Viegas.
Residents expressed frustration over recurring power failures, stating that the village experiences three to four outages daily, severely affecting daily life. Members demanded that the government immediately initiate underground cabling to provide lasting relief.
Sarpanch Viegas informed the gathering that the panchayat had already raised the matter with electricity department officials, highlighting manpower shortages and logistical issues.
Another key concern raised was the surge in thefts and burglaries, prompting members to call for mandatory tenant verification before landlords rent out premises to migrants. Members noted delays in current verification processes, particularly for migrants from North Indian states.
Sarpanch Viegas also briefed the media on discussions regarding the proposed construction of the new Panchayat Ghar by the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation as part of the phase-I development on panchayat-owned land.
